Returns FAQs

Do you accept returns/exchanges?

I do not accept returns.

Why don’t you accept returns/exchanges?

As a small business, the loss of replacing a damage item can be severely detrimental to the business. To help avoid any potential risks of your items being damaged that are within my control, all orders are packed carefully and securely and are accompanied by pictures of your packed order within the shipping confirmation!

I opened my parcel, and my book is ruined! Will you refund me?

I’m so sorry to hear that! As I do not accept returns, refunds are not typically accepted. Unless there is an issue as a result of the packaging, no refund will be submitted.

Do you do refunds?

No, I do not. The only exception is as long as the items haven’t been processed or shipped and the items are still in my possession. Once shipped no refund is available.

Why don’t you do refunds?

Once all orders leave my hands, I am not responsible for any damages that may occur as a result of the postage and delivery sector. The factors in shipping environment are out of my control and I do not possess the ability or skills outside of my standard packing methods to alter those factors.

Book FAQs

Where can I buy your books?

Hardcover editions are only available to purchase through my store.

Why can’t I buy your books at bookstores and other retailers?

At this point in time, you can only purchase physical books from my store and not other bookstores and retailers. There are various reasons as to why I have chosen not to distribute at this time, but mainly due to the way I have chosen to publish.

What was the inspiration for A VAULT OF NINE LIVES?

This is such a broad question. Basically, I was napping one day and had a dream about a monster coming out of the tree in my backyard and fast forward the first draft was written! It’s changed a lot since then so one day I would like to go back to the original idea.

Pricing FAQs

Why are your prices so high?

As an independent author in Australia the cost of printing the books are expensive, and fronting the cost myself without a Publishing team behind me means I have to be cost considerate.

Where did you get your prices from?

The prices of the books are priced to cover the cost of printing them as well as enough of a profit to print the next batch.

Where does my money go?

It feeds my feline children. Jks jks, I personally don’t make a liveable wage from the purchasing of the books but what does happen is I am then able to continue to order more stock of my books and as each book is written, the funds from sales go into the business which then pays for things such as editors, cover artists etc and everything else that goes into publishing a book.

What does into the cost of the books?

The prices of the physical books include

  • The cost of printing the books
  • The profit of printing a second batch
  • Leftover profit for the next publication

Meaning, each book pays for itself and a future book. Any left-over funds goes into the business piggy savings which is then used to pay for editors and future expenses of publishing a book.

Author FAQs

I look exactly like my author profile picture believe it or not! (The artist was so good oh, my goodness)

How old are you?

I am twenty-four!

When did you start writing?

I started writing from a young age (think peak 1D Wattpad days) and didn’t start properly writing until grade 11 English where I would write poetry and short essay stories.

It wasn’t until I attended University for a semester, achieved high marks while writing the first draft of the book that would two years later become A VAULT OF NINE LIVES, that I dropped out a pursed it professionally.

Do you have a support system?

I have wonderful parents, fantastic friends, and co-workers, as well as two furry babies who support me emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically (hugs cure everything I swear.)

How do you afford to write?

Writing itself is free but publishing is expensive. I work two jobs full time, six days a week that total to 50 – 60 hours. My morning job funds the business while my night-time job funds me.

Do you have any industry connections?

Sadly, and truthfully, I don’t. I came into publishing and writing alone with no industry connections and still don’t to this day. All partners I’ve worked with have been sourced by my own research (google bae) and are mostly freelancers!

Why aren’t there any pictures/videos of you?

I’m not always comfortable with showcasing myself and much prefer to keep the focus on the book. However, there are occasionally posts from other readers, friends etc that I’ve been tagged in and you can see me there. In order to keep myself safe, and healthy while taking care of my mental health I prefer to stay out of the limelight.

What’s your star sign?

I’m a Scorpio!

Will you ever traditionally publish or get an agent?

I don’t want to speak for future me because I don’t know where she’ll be or how her career will progress so while I, right now, prefer self-publishing I am not completely ruling out the future possibility of career change.

Do you have an agent?

No I do not.

Publishing FAQs

Are you published?

As of January 2023, I will be!

Why did you self-publish?

There were a lot of reasons and factors swaying my decision. The most notable is the ability to have full creative control. I talk more about my decision in my blog posts.

Do you recommend self-publishing?

Yes and no. Every author is different. Every author has different goals and wants to achieve different things. For me self-publishing was right and others its traditional publishing they want. I encourage all aspiring authors to conduct their own research to decide what path is best for them.

How did you afford to publish?

I am very fortunate that I had the ability to obtain not one but two jobs to help fund my writing career. Self-publishing isn’t cheap, especially the path I chose, and I work 50 – 60 hour weeks to support myself, my cats and my business. I am the sole financial supporter and funder. My second job is what solely funded the start up to my business and book one A VAULT OF NINE LIVES. It does still occasionally support the business, while my other job provides for my financially and my livelihood.
